****************

You should consider disposing of your blanket safely and buying a new one if it is more than 10 years old.

When purchasing, using, storing and disposing of your electric blanket it is recommended that you follow these simple steps

                                                                      ****************

Simon Hall Electrical – The Dorchester Electricians in Dorchester – Call Today – Tel : 0777 50 40 093

                                                                      ****************

Using an electric blanket

• Do follow the manufacturer’s instructions before use

• Do remember to keep the instructions in a safe place for future reference

• Do examine your blanket regularly for signs of wear or damage

• Do use your blanket only for the purpose the manufacturer intended. Over blankets must only be positioned above the occupant of the bed and under-blankets must only be positioned under the occupant of the bed

• Do check the manufacturer’s instructions for suitability to wash your blanket

• Do examine your blanket to make sure it is intact with no signs of damage when first purchased

• If a fuse in a 13 amp plug needs changing a 3amp BS 1362 fuse must be fitted

• Don’t use the blanket whilst it is folded, rucked or creased

• Don’t use a hot water bottle at the same time as using your electric blanket

• Don’t touch the blanket with wet hands or feet

• Don’t use the blanket if it is damp or wet

• Don’t insert or use pins to hold the blanket in place on the bed

• Don’t use under blankets on folding or adjustable beds. If it must be used on an adjustable bed ensure that the blanket and cord cannot become trapped for example in the hinges

• Don’t use an electric blanket on the bed of a helpless person, an infant or a person who may have a condition that makes them insensitive to heat

• Don’t allow the blanket to be used by young children unless you are satisfied that the child is able to use the appliance safely or the controls have been pre-set by a parent/carer.

• Don’t allow people with pacemakers fitted to use heated bedding for all night use

Visual Checks

Take a few minutes to check that the blanket is safe for continued use before putting your electric blanket on the bed to use over the winter months. It’s time to replace your blanket if

• The fabric is torn, worn or frayed

• Scorch marks or discolouration areas are visible on the fabric

• Wires can be seen or are poking through the fabric

• There is damage to the flexible cord between the supply plug and the control and/or the control to the blanket

• The control makes a buzzing sound when switched on or off or there is a smell

• The control fitted to the blanket is damaged or overheating

If you are in any doubt about your blanket we recommend you should contact the manufacturer before further use to check with them that the blanket is safe for continued use.

                                                                      ****************

Hey,

Pop question… how much traffic do
you think it takes to make $9,000
a month in PASSIVE income on the Internet?

10,000 visitors a month?
12,000? 17,000? 25,000 or more?

Think again.

Passive Stre

I know one guy who muscles an “extra”
$110,000 a year from his Internet
business… racking up less than 75
hits in his traffic logs every day.

Yup, 75 visitors a day!

And HE DOESN’T PAY A PENNY for it.

He makes a TON of money… multiple
streams of passive income… from
‘tiny’ little sites that make him
between $5 and $50 per day, each.

In fact… whilst everyone else is
trying to figure out SEO, pay-per-click,
and messing with blackhat stuff to
slam their sites with traffic… this
guy quietly makes 6 figures on
the ’scrap’ hits no-one cares about.

How’s he do it?

He claims to be saving the juice
for a private classroom he’s releasing
next week… BUT, I’ll let you in on
a little secret:

I just watched the promo video he
put online to promote it, and I noticed
that at 15m29… HE RELEASED A SCREENSHOT
OF THE ENTIRE BLUEPRINT!

Even if you have no intention
of being ’sold’ on a new course… heck,
watch the video and steal the blueprint
anyway. It’s all right there.

The DIRECT link to the video is
available by clicking below:

Passive Stre

It’s only online until he’s filled his
numbers… WHICH COULD BE ANY TIME.

****************
In homes, all electricity sockets which might be used to power equipment outdoors should be protected by an RCD ( which is a device that automatically switches off the electricity when it detects a shorting event) to protect against electrocution.

It is not required to RCD protect socket outlets installed below kitchen worktops as they are not usually used for outdoor portable equipment. You should exclude sockets used for fridges and freezers from circuits which have RCD protection.

****************

This page is intended to help you to use electrical equipment safely in the garden and avoid electrical accidents. The risk of an electric shock causing serious injury or death, is greater outdoors than indoors, due to possible wet conditions and physical contact with the ground.

Residual Current Devices

An Residual Current Device(RCD) is a device that automatically switches off the electricity when it detects the cable shorts. Any socket that might be used for powering any portable electrical equipment that you will be using outside, should be RCD protected.

An RCD with a maximum rated residual operating current of 30 milliamperes (mA) should give you optimal protection. If your socket does not have RCD protection, buy a good quality plug in RCD adaptor from an electrical retailer, as a good temporary alternative. The safest option is to get a registered installer to install permanent RCD protection to all socket-outlets that may be used for plugging in 230 V outdoor portable electrical equipment.

A permanent RCD, in accordance with the notice that should be fixed near it, needs to be tested quarterly. This normally involves pressing the test button and checking that the RCD switches off the supply immediately. Such regular testing is very important, to make sure of the correct operation of the RCD in the event of an electrical fault.

Unwinding extension cable from the reel

Extension cables that are coiled up on a reel can overheat when in use, causing damage to the cable, which may in extreme cases result in fire. This extreme damage may also bring the risk of electric shock, causing injury or fatality.

An unwound cable reduces the risk of overheating and the risk of fire or electric shock.

Wet conditions

Do not use electrical equipment when it is raining or in areas that are being watered. In wet conditions the risk of serious injury and even death from electric shock are far higher compared to dry conditions. The risk of an accident increases as ground conditions may also be slippery in the wet. Electrical equipment may also become damaged in the rain or wet conditions.

Using electrical equipment in the garden in dry conditions reduces the risk of an accident.

****************
You must have noticed that if you leave your phone charger plugged in all the time it gets hot. If a charger feels warm when it’s plugged in without being attached to a device, it’s still converting energy. So unplug chargers when you’re not using them to save electricity and money.

Chargers are not huge energy consumers in their own right, but across the UK those left plugged in unnecessarily waste over £60m and are responsible for a quarter of a million tonnes of carbon dioxide every year. If chargers for devices such as mobile phones and MP3 players were unplugged when not in use, the UK could save enough electricity each year to power 115,000 homes.

****************

It costs less than a penny to charge a phone for eight hours, but unplugging when not in use is one of those changes that can make a big environmental impact if everyone does it. If you have a timer which only charges the phone for an hour overnight you will save over £10. This applies to laptops and MP3 palyers as well.

You could do your bit for the environment by using a wind-up charger. Costing less than £4 they work by winding the handle. In addition to saving energy they are excellent where you don’t have access to electricity. Just connect the cable to the mobile phone, wind the rotary charger, and watch the power flow back to the handset.

****************
Changing your cooking methods can’t save you a lot of energy. Cooking uses a fraction of total household energy compared to things like heating, cooling, and lighting. However there are a few easy ways to save energy when cooking which can also speed up the amount of time you spend over a hot stove.

Make sure you use the correct size saucepan for the cooker ring you are using to prevent heat loss, and when heating water in the stove only use the amount you actually need you are not wasting electricity unnecessarily to heat the extra water. You waste over 40 percent of the heat produced by the ring if you use a 6″” saucepan on an 8″” ring .

Putting a lid on the saucepan will help the water come to the boil quicker and require less energy, as will boiling water in the kettle before filling the pan. This will save the time the ring needs to heat the water.

****************

Dave Hall Electrical – The Dorchester Electrician – Call Today – Tel : 0777 50 40 093

****************

Using a microwave is much more energy efficient for cooking than anything else. It uses 60% less energy than your cooker. Using a steamer, a slow cooker or a pressure cooker will also use less energy. Using a slow cooker is a good way to save energy. It cooks at a low temperature for a long period of time. You can switch it on before going to work and have a delicious meal waiting for you when you get home. A method of cooking that minimizes the area to be heated and so saves energy, so a toaster is more efficient for toast than using a grill.

Try to open the door to the oven only when you have to. The temperature will drop by over twenty-five degrees each time you open the oven door. Getting an oven with an oven light and a glass window in the door will let you check on your food without opening the door. Keeping the glass in your oven door clean, means you can look through it easily to check on your food rather than opening the door and letting all that heat out.

When saucepans become blackened from heavy use, they can absorb a lot of heat, reducing ring efficiency. You need them to stay shiny so they reflect the heat up into the cookware. In the same way, if a saucepan’s bottom is not flat it doesn’t make full contact with the ring and some energy is wasted.

Finally defrosting frozen foods in the refrigerator before cooking will save energy before you start.

If you have any questions or would like a quotation call me or drop me a line at The Dorchester Electrician.
